8th February 2006 The school was visited by a musical group today. The WELSH BRASS TRIO entertained and educated the children for an hour. We learned about the origins of brass instruments, how the sounds are produced and lots more. They also performed a number of pieces for us. Our favourite was probably when they played the theme from "The Simpsons". The Welsh Brass Trio have a website HERE. Click on a picture opposite to see the larger version or watch a short video of the trio performing (5mb MPG). |

9th February 2005 Our reception classes have been extremely busy this week, working hard on their project about the Chinese New Year. The children in Blue and Yellow classes have made masks depicting the animals used in the Chinese calendar, lanterns and small Chinese dragons. Also, they made a huge dragon costume. |

13th January 2005 Strange sounds have been heard recently in our playground, from children singing sea-shanties, to cries of "MAKE HIM WALK THE PLANK!" The reason for this? The recent addition of a pirate ship to our playground has been a great success and is a very popular play area for our children. So popular in fact, we have had to work out a rota to ensure our budding buccaneers aren't squashed. Recent rumours that we are considering adding eyepatches to our school uniform are entirely untrue. |

2nd October 2003 A study of pupils at primary schools in Durham has shown that supplements of fish oils taken daily can lead to a remarkable improvement in reading age and numeracy. A child who has been taking the supplements was featured on yesterday's edition of "Richard and Judy" on Channel Four and "The Human Mind" on BBC1. He told how he has progressed from a reading age of 7 to a new reading age of 11 in just 12 weeks. Can such a simple addition to our diet have such a dramatic effect on performance? And, if it does, should every child in the country be given the supplement? |

6th February 2003 After nearly six months offline, st-john-and-st-francis.co.uk returns to the Internet. Our last hosts, Digitalbrain, decided to slap adverts all over our pages back in September. These advertisements contained links to other websites, the content of which we could not be responsible for. It was therefore decided that the whole site should temporarily shut down until a new host could be found. In addition to being an 'advert-free' site, we can now be found at two web addresses. As well as www.st-john-and-st-francis.co.uk, we can also be reached at www.st-john-st-francis.somerset.sch.uk. |
